Finance & funding

ASD is a powerful advocate championing finance and funding for Europe's aerospace, security, and defence industries. Our mission is to support the competitive development of these critical sectors, driving innovation, investment, and strategic growth.

Defence and security

We understand the challenges faced by companies in the defence and security sectors; one of which is access to private funding due to ESG considerations. ASD is actively engaging policymakers, contributing valuable insights to EU policies such as the European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP), which include more funding and promoting more favourable conditions for finance for the sector.

ASD is advocating for:

  • a European Defence Investment Programme;
  • a budget increase for the European Defence Fund to support investment in defence research;
  • an increased defence budget in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF);
  • political and regulatory measures to ensure that sustainability criteria do not unfairly disadvantage defence companies.

Civil aviation: promoting innovation and investment

In civil aviation, ASD champions EU policies to support innovation through strategic funding and financing, and promotes a practical approach to the EU taxonomy criteria, which takes into account existing regulations and the specific needs and complexities of the aviation sector.

ASD’s EU advocacy initiatives focus on:

  • engaging with policymakers to ensure proper support for an EU-wide roadmap towards climate neutral aviation, through research and innovation programmes, including the Innovation Fund, a dedicated strand under the successor of Horizon Europe, and via financing of public–private partnerships like Clean Aviation and SESAR;
  • promoting increased public RD&I investments via the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10).

Space

ASD Eurospace works to promote investment and investment-friendly policy to support innovation and competitiveness in European space industry companies, focussing on:

  • calling for the EU budget for space to reflect the increased ambitions of the EU, and therefore for at least a doubling of the dedicated budget for the evolution of ongoing programmes, new capabilities, and security and resilience-related requirements
