Integrated product support

In the dynamic realm of aerospace and defence, ensuring the availability of complex technical systems at affordable costs is paramount. To address the evolving challenges of product support and sustainment, the international community led by ASD in Europe, AIA in the US and A4A for the civil sector in S1000D, collaboratively developed the S-Series Integrated Product Support (IPS) specifications. These specifications represent a culmination of decades of effort, fostering interoperability, harmonisation and standardisation across critical sectors.

S-series specifications for IPS

The S-series specifications are key tools for achieving interoperability in IPS internationally. This means that whether a product is being used in Europe or exported overseas, it adheres to consistent, recognised standards, making maintenance and support straightforward and effective.

The S-Series provide a range of analysis activities to develop an integrated product support solution, including preventive maintenance development, maintenance and repair, supply-chain management, training, technical publications, sustainment and in-services data feedback. They provide guidance on how to effectively develop, manage and support complex systems, with an emphasis on maximizing system availability and readiness while reducing life cycle costs.

Resources

ASD provides training materials, guidance documents, and checklists to equip individuals and organisations with the knowledge needed to implement IPS successfully. These resources cater to various stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and procurement professionals.

Promotion

ASD actively promotes the adoption of S-Series IPS specifications among its members, ministries of defence, and NATO. By sharing best practices and emphasising the importance of IPS, we contribute to product interoperability, safety, and sustainability across the aerospace and defence industries.
