The five leading European aviation associations representing Europe’s airlines, airports, civil aeronautics industry and air navigation service providers, which are close partners through the Destination 2050 alliance – A4E, ACI EUROPE, ASD, CANSO Europe, and ERA – welcomed the agreement reached by the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Member States at the Third Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) in Dubai.

The agreement is an important step necessary to start implementing the ICAO’s Long Term Aspirational Goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 for international aviation. Sustainable aviation fuels are a crucial component of aviation’s pathway to climate neutrality.

The Destination 2050 partners in particular applauded the inclusion of a 5% CO2 emissions reduction objective by 2030 through sustainable aviation fuels use globally, which will provide a clear signal for the energy sector to develop alternative fuels and attract the necessary investment.
