S-Series IPS Specifications

The pivotal role of Integrated Product Support (IPS) in aerospace and defence

The S-Series Specifications of Integrated Product Support (IPS) are a set of guidelines developed by ASD, alongside our partners at Aerospace Industries Association in the US (and Airlines for America for S1000D) to ensure effective and efficient support for defence and civilian systems throughout their life cycle.

Integrated Product Support (IPS) is the cornerstone of success in the European aerospace and defence industry, guiding the entire lifecycle of products. They ensure cost-effectiveness, operational readiness, safety, and reliability, providing a unified solution for international collaborations.

How the S-Series supports IPS goals

The S-Series IPS specifications play an important role in achieving IPS goals within the aerospace and defence sectors:

  • Optimises lifecycle costs and ensures operational readiness.
  • Supports the priorities of safety, reliability, and compliance in the aerospace and defence industry.
  • Facilitates the integration of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Streamlines supply chain management and supports extended lifecycles of aerospace and defence systems.
  • Ensures seamless interoperability for coordinated operations.
  • Standardises data management processes.
  • Drives customer satisfaction and provides a competitive edge in military and commercial applications.

What happens if S-Series IPS specifications are discontinued?

Discontinuing the S-Series IPS specifications poses significant risks to the European aerospace and defence sectors – affecting business continuity, damage to credibility and collaboration, an erosion of competitiveness, and the disruption of NATO codification would cause serious problems in the support of systems and spares for various ministries of defence and jeopardise the interoperability between systems.

Are there alternatives to the S-Series IPS specifications?

While alternatives exist, such as GEIA-0007 (SAE), NORSOK Standards, and ISO10303-AP239, each falls short of the comprehensive capabilities offered by the S-Series IPS specifications. Creating new standards, if the S-Series were discontinued, would incur costs, time delays, and a potential loss of influence on standardisation work by ASD member companies.

The future with S-Series IPS specifications

The S-Series IPS specifications are not just a set of standards; they represent the future of IPS in the aerospace and defence industry. Recognizing their paramount role and ensuring their continued production is crucial for maintaining efficiency, competitiveness, and progress.
